Dustin Shaffer is a costume designer and illustrator living in Las Vegas. He is currently an instructor in the Fine Arts Department at the College of Southern Nevada. Dustin earned his B.G.S. in Theatre & Film from the University of Kansas (1998) and an M.F.A. in Theatre Design from the University of Florida (2009). Shaffer has been recognized for "outstanding" theatre design work by the Southeastern Theatre Conference and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
Design highlights include The Pillowman for the College of Southern Nevada, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui for Card Table Theatre (Lawrence, KS), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson for Maryland Ensemble Theatre (Frederick, MD), Simpatico for Actors Bridge Ensemble (Nashville, TN) Bent for the Florida Players (Gainesville, FL) La Boheme for the Springfield Regional Opera (Springfield, MO) and NYC's Atlantic Theatre Company for Kids Rolling World Premier of Molly Shannon's Tilly the Trickster. Shaffer has also designed costumes for television through NBC/PBS Kids Sprout.
Costume related skills include: draping, flat patterning, dying & fabric modification, tailoring, puppet fabrication, mask making, wig & makeup design and wardrobe management. In addition to costume design and construction, Dustin is skilled in acting and stage direction.
Shaffer's aesthetic is inspired by artists such as David Lynch, Edward Gorey, and Francis Bacon and the music of the David Bowie. During his spare time, Dustin is an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys trail running, camping, and hiking.
